ART & DESIGN

At Aston St Mary’s we use Art and Design to inspire, engage and challenge children to embody some of the highest forms of creativity.  In line with our school values it supports perseverance, independence, patience, responsibility, reflection and resilience. We learn about different artists and to appreciate and reflect on the many different styles of Art and Design. Art and Design is linked to the creativity and wealth of different cultures and religions.

Children will have the chance to work with a wide range of different materials to develop and enhance a variety of techniques such as colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space.

The skills they will learn and develop are:-

  • Drawing
  • Painting
  • Sculpture
  • Collage
  • Printing
  • Textiles

Skills will be taught and built upon each year as children move through the school.

By the end of Key Stage 2, children will be able to select, justify and use a variety of appropriate media and techniques to achieve a specific outcome. They will learn about the lives and artwork of famous artists; be able to compare and contrast different styles.  They will also create their own masterpieces in the style of certain artists, thus developing their own personal style. Children will learn to reflect upon and evaluate their work.
