The School Council visit the ‘Foodshed’

Today we had the privilege of taking our School Council to visit the ‘Foodshed’. This is a local foodbank in Stevenage that supports people in our local community who are in need of food. We took all of Aston St Mary’s harvest festival donations and went as a team to deliver the food.

When we got there we were met by a member of the ‘Foodshed’ team called Becky. She was able to explain how the ‘Foodshed’ operates and what would happen to our donations. After we explored the area and saw how it all operated it was time for us to get stuck in and do some work! We were able to sort all of the food, ready to be stored in the storage areas.

Our next task after that was to make up some food bags ready to be given away. We had a list of items that needed to be placed in each bag. We worked in teams of three to locate each item and check it off the list before bagging it up. It is great to think that these bags will be given away to families in need next Wednesday afternoon.

The School Council were amazing and worked really hard on their trip to the foodbank. It was really eye opening to see how it operated and it was rewarding to know that we had helped support our local community.
