On Wednesday 15th April, Year Five enjoyed a walk in Astonbury Wood. This was kindly arranged by Mr Falder and led by Iain Ward of the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust. The children were fascinated to learn about this ancient woodland and how it is being protected and preserved. Last year in geography, the children had learnt about how and why trees are coppiced so it was great for their learning to be reinforced by seeing for themselves trees that had been coppiced – both recently and many years ago. The bluebells were simply beautiful – like a carpet across the woodland floor.
It really was a pleasure to take such an interested and enthusiastic group out – they asked so many intelligent questions and their behaviour was impeccable.
