Over the last couple of weeks in Danes Class, we have been enjoying Charles Dickens’ ‘Great Expectations’. Focussing on an extract in which Pip met Miss Havisham for the first time, we were posed with the question ‘How does Dickens create a sense of horror and decay around the character of Miss Havisham?’ When writing our own pieces, we used a gothic style as well as some of the techniques used by Dickens.
