English: ‘Wisp’ Narrative Writing

We have been enjoying Zana Fraillon’s beautiful ‘Wisp: A Story of Hope’ in our English learning. Her use of vocabulary and metaphors along with Grahame Baker-Smith’s breathtaking illustrations tell the story of a child, Idris, who has been raised in a refugee camp. One day, he discovers a wisp which takes him on a journey to remind others of happier times and ‘rememberings’ as well as providing Idris with a promise of a happier future.

This unit of learning allowed us to explore metaphors to create vivid imagery as well as more technical learning about sentence structures to build a strong footing for writing our very own ‘Wisp’ stories about hope. All of our beautiful stories can be found and enjoyed in this class book in Danes classroom.
