In maths, we are exploring circles. We began by considering what we know already and revising the vocabulary: radius, diameter and circumference. Next, we measured 3D objects and 2D circles to find these three measurements; this enabled us to spot relationships between them. We noticed that the diameter is twice the radius and that the circumference is just over three times the diameter.
Our next challenge was to build our skills and confidence using a pair of compasses to draw accurate circles. Once we were confident enough, we then drew circles with specific and accurate measurements when given the radius or the diameter. Some of us even managed to draw concentric circles by increasing the radius by 1cm (or even 5mm) each time.
Once we felt confident, we then enjoyed using our compass skills to draw patterns.
