We have loved our maths learning all about ‘The Number Devil’ by Hans Magnus Anzensberger this half-term.
This captivating books tells the story of twelve-year-old Robert who hates his maths teacher: he sets his class boring problems and won’t let them use their calculators. Then, in his dream, Robert meets the Number Devil – who brings the subject magically to life – illustrating with wit and charm a world in which numbers can amaze and fascinate. The Number Devil knows how to make maths devilishly simple.
The book consists of twelve chapters which address a variety of mathematical concepts from the concept of zero all the way to infinity and everything in between! A particular highlight was when Robert was introduced to the Fibonacci sequence; we couldn’t believe just how intrinsic this sequence is to our natural world around.
Danes have immersed themselves in this learning and created pages to be incredibly proud of.
