We have been learning so much about animals! Following on from our trip to the allotments to find out about local wildlife, we have been learning all about wildlife in contrasting places in the world. At first we learned about the continent of Africa and focussed in on south Africa. We read ‘The Ugly Five’ by Julia Donaldson. We loved finding out about the native wildlife on the Savannah. We made our own amazing books, combing so many of the skills we have learned this year.
Next we learned about animals from another continent – Antarctica! We read ‘Jonty Gentoo The Adventures Of A Penguin’ By Julia Donaldson. We read fact files about animals that live in Antarctica. We learned how to create detailed drawings and then to paint these with watercolour which was another new skill. After this we wrote facts about our chosen animal!
We also read ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers. We used our skills to design and create boats that would be able to float whilst carrying the boy and the penguin all the way back to Antarctica!
