DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY

At Aston St Mary’s Primary School, Design and Technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject.  In line with our school values it supports perseverance, independence, patience, responsibility, reflection and resilience.  It encourages the children to take risks; develop a love of learning and the chance to achieve ambitious goals.  We teach Design and Technology to give children the experience and opportunity to explore and develop their creative nature and to enable them to be inclusive and successful in a world that is rich in technology.

At Aston St Mary’s, children are taught, through a wide variety of creative and practical projects, the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to engage in such projects.  Children are taught to design, make and evaluate their projects using technical knowledge.

They will learn about:

  • Structures
  • Mechanisms
  • Electrical systems
  • Food technology
  • Textiles

The skills taught each year will be developed as the children move up the school.

By the end of Key Stage 2, children will be able to identify the needs and wants of individuals and design, develop, communicate ideas using plans they have they have designed themselves. They will be able to create, produce and evaluate their product working with a range of different appropriate tools, equipment and resources carefully selected for the tasks in hand.
