Today, Puddlebridge enjoyed their first Design and Technology day of the year. To support our learning about The Awesome Egyptians in history, we designed, made, and tested our own shadufs. A shaduf is a hand-operated device used for lifting water with a lever mechanism. Invented in ancient times, it helped the Egyptians irrigate their land. We learned that a lever is a rigid bar that rests on a pivot and reduces the effort needed to lift heavy loads. To ensure our shadufs were stable, we used triangular structures for the framework and aimed to make our mechanisms as authentic as possible. Everyone worked brilliantly as part of a team, and we are really proud of the outcomes.
