In our recent art lessons, Puddlebridge have been diving into the world of perspective drawing, learning how to make flat images appear three-dimensional using clever techniques such as vanishing points, horizon lines, and perspective lines.
We began our learning journey by looking closely at real-life photographs and discussing what the word ‘perspective’ means in art. The children chose one image to stick into their sketchbooks, then identified and marked the vanishing point and the horizon line.
The children tried drawing their own one-point perspective scenes before embracing our final challenge to level up to two-point perspective. The unit finished with a fantastic final piece: a Mayan temple drawn in two-point perspective. To bring their temples to life, children applied cross-hatching techniques to show light and shadow, developing not only their drawing skills but also their understanding of tone and texture.
