In reception, historical enquiry takes place through discussion, teaching time and carefully planned activities which allow children to explore during Child Initiated Learning. Children refer to their own life experiences and key events such as birthdays and family celebrations in order to form an understanding of past and present.
In these examples, as part of a “Fire Fighter Topic” children are extending their vocabulary, sequencing ideas, asking, and answering questions, making links and sorting events/objects into past and present.
