In Year One, children begin to see historical enquiry as a process in which they begin to engage with. They use given artefacts to answer a specific question. They begin to understand that artefacts give us evidence which can help us make decisions. They learn artefacts can take many forms such as objects, maps and diary entries. In the example below, children are using a guided interactive resource, to answer the question “How did the fire spread?” On the next page, you can see how they begin to formulate their answers into sentences.
