As part of our work relating to the Battle of Britain, we designed and made model planes. This linked our work in history and science in a design and make the project.
In science, the children had been learning about electrical circuits. They needed to apply this knowledge in order to construct a circuit with a homemade switch, a battery and a motor to power their plane. The motor spun the propeller. The children also learnt that wing and tail shape and size are a key to aeronautic design as well as the importance of locating the centre of gravity in order to balance the plane.
