Christian Ethos Vision

OUR VISION

‘Every child is a treasure – small in size, growing in God’s love.’

CHRISTIAN ETHOS VISION

At Aston St Mary’s School, each individual child is treasured and celebrated. Our Christian values support achievement and respect through an enriched education and environment. Children grow in God’s unconditional love and are encouraged and nurtured to reach their full potential academically, emotionally and spiritually.

When exploring our vision, staff, governors and children looked carefully at how Jesus responded to children in the Bible and how treasure in parables represents the value of each one of us and how we should further the kingdom of God through our actions. We also thought about how small things can be mighty and make a huge impact on the world.

‘He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” 16 And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.’ Mark 10:14-16

Each one of us is a child of God. Jesus never limited what children could do and he knew that they come with expectation and excitement. At Aston St Mary’s we have a culture of growth, encouragement and of being able to dream and reach high places, whilst also staying humble, like the little children were before Jesus.

In the parable of the precious pearl and the hidden treasure, the Kingdom of God is talked about as a treasure more precious than anything in this world. At Aston St Mary’s we learn about the Kingdom of God through Jesus stories and try to live our lives like Jesus did, always growing in God’s love.

We also talk about how each of us is like a special treasure just like this pearl. We each have so much value and this is how we should see each other. Through the parable of the lost coin and the parable of the lost sheep, we see how each person has a high value to God and that we are all incredibly important.

As a result of the trusting relationships between the whole school community and our embedded Christian vision and values, pupils at Aston St Mary’s grow into compassionate, respectful and well-behaved young people. They have respect for and value each other’s differences and encourage those around them to work hard to reach their full potential, academically, emotionally and spiritually.
